Research Grants – applications open

Are you engaged in new research into an aspect of British or British-related theatre?

Every spring, the Society for Theatre Research distributes several thousand pounds in awards for original contributions to theatre research. You don’t have to be an academic to apply – anyone may put in an application – though there are strict criteria as to the nature of eligible projects.

Read all about it on the Research Grants page here, where you can also see what kinds of projects we have been funding, and download the application form. The closing date is 26 March 2021 so there’s plenty of time to refine your application and find your referees!

At the height of this year’s pandemic, we were able to give out £3400 in Special Covid-19 Support Grants aimed particularly at practitioner research needs. We hope to be able to run another such programme next year, but in the meantime if you are a practitioner please look carefully at the eligibility criteria for the current round of grants – we may still be able to help you.

A number of fascinating articles have been written by some of our grants recipients: go to the Green Room Blog and select ‘Grants and Awards’ in the drop-down category list. You’ll see that the range of projects funded is enormous – the amount of money we can give may be limited, but has so often proved to be the crucial support at the right time. New articles come in every so often – keep an eye on the Grants page to see the latest.
