A Life on Stage: A talk by Dame Siân Phillips*

Siân Phillips is an award winning actress respected and loved by professional colleagues and audiences alike. Her roles have ranged from Shakespeare, Shaw and Oscar Wilde to Tennessee Williams and the musicals of Sondheim and Rodgers and Hart, from her Empress Livia on television, lodged in the memory of all who have seen it, to stunning success as Marlene Dietrich on Broadway. She was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2016 for her services to drama.

In this talk Dame Siân will share some of the key events in a career that has taken her from childhood performer for BBC Wales to Broadway and West End star, from the stages of the RSC and the National Theatre to physical theatre with Frantic Assembly and intimate cabaret performance.

She will discuss her approach to her work, collaboration with various directors, the experience of working with a variety of fellow actors, and reflect on half a century of change in theatre life.
