Frank Matcham Society 2013 Theatre Seminar

National Theatres!

Friday, October 25th, 2013
London

The Frank Matcham Society marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the UK’s National Theatre at the Old Vic with a one day seminar.

The seminar will provide a very special account and insight into the arrival of one of the UK’s most important cultural institutions. Sessions will trace the birth of the idea, the search for a suitable site for a national theatre, reminiscences from those working at the Old Vic under Olivier’s direction and a look at how national theatres developed abroad.

There will be an account of the Old Vic’s notable history, the development of the Young Vic and tours of three buildings associated with the National’s history: the Old Vic in Waterloo Road, the Young Vic in the Cut, and backstage at the National Theatre.

Tickets: 0844 871 7628
