A Free Shakespeare Workshop led by high profile industry directors and actors

with The Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester


Actors! Apply now for a place on the prestigious Poel Workshop, an annual one-day Shakespeare workshop led by respected industry professionals and hosted by the Royal Exchange Theatre on Friday 31st May 2024.

This invaluable event offers professional actors an opportunity to be part of a free workshop led by respected industry directors and actors. In the past these have included Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Blanche McIntyre, Erica Wyman, Ben Crystal, Paapa Essiedu,

Funded by The Society for Theatre Research, the Poel Workshop has a 40 year ongoing relationship with the National Theatre. Recently the workshop has been run at other major venues. The Royal Exchange Theatre is generously hosting the event this year for actors resident or working in the North West, with priority for those in The Greater Manchester area.

The number of places available for the workshop is limited to twelve, ensuring that each participant gets maximum benefit. To reflect the workshop’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusivity we welcome applications from all members of the acting community with at least two years professional experience, but not more than ten, since they finished training.

Important: Actor submissions and/or correspondence MUST be either: via the Society for Theatre Research website or via the Poel Workshop Administrator Mary Jane Walsh at  NOT to The Royal Exchange Theatre.

  1. An audition self-tape (720p resolution accepted)
  2. Two-minute Shakespeare speech memorised/read
  3. A brief intro of yourself or a link to CV/Spotlight page
