Theatrical exhibitions in Greenwich, London

Pieter van der Merwe MBE, former chairman of the STR, writes:

Croom’s Hill, running up the west side of Greenwich Park, is one of outer London’s best-preserved historic streets. At the bottom, just opposite Greenwich Theatre, the Fan Museum holds what is probably the world’s finest private collection of them, displayed in the end house of fine early 18th-century terrace.

It has a regular programme of temporary exhibitions of which the current one of historical and some more recent fans relating to the performing arts is currently in progress to 31 May: more details can be found here Exhibitions | The Fan Museum.

A new ‘Pirates’ exhibition, which includes ‘performance’ related items also opens at the National Maritime Museum on 29 March, see Pirates exhibition at National Maritime Museum | Greenwich London. An expedition after that date therefore provides opportunity to see both if interested, reminiscent of Captain Hook’s usual entrance (stage-left) smoking two cigars at once in a holder of his own devising.
