STR Lecture April 23: Lydia in Court

Born in Covent Garden, Lydia Thompson was an actor and dancer who appeared in nineteenth-century burlesques, achieving both fame and notoriety on both sides of the Atlantic.  She was the subject of several court cases and – according to one anecdote – horsewhipped a newspaper owner who had questioned her virtue.  Sue Solomon’s talk will focus on Lydia’s adventures in court, and will include performance and music.  Join us for a fascinating evening in person at the Art Workers’ Guild or online.  Seating at the Art Workers’ Guild is limited and you are advised to book early.  This lecture will not be on Zoom, but will be live-streamed from the Art Workers’ Guild.
