Hester Lees-Jeffries

Dr

Originally from New Zealand, I am an associate professor in the Faculty of English at Cambridge University, and a Fellow of St Catharine’s College. I teach and research Shakespeare and early modern literature more generally. My latest monograph, Textile Shakespeare, will be published in November 2025. I’m currently editing The Two Gentlemen of Verona for the Arden Fourth Series, and writing Shakespeare’s Histories, a Very Short Introduction for Oxford. I’m also the London reviewer for Shakespeare Survey; I go to the theatre a LOT, and not just to see work by Shakespeare. Since 2018 I’ve written about Shakespeare every day on my Slow Shakespeare blog (linked from my Faculty webpage), working through Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest, Richard II, Macbeth, Antony and Cleopatra, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Hamlet; I post on Bluesky as @starcrossed2018.bsky.social, #SlowShakespeare. Further details of my publications and research interests are on my Faculty webpage https://www.english.cam.ac.uk/people/Hester.Lees-Jeffries
