Anthony Arblaster
Anthony is a lighting designer and educator from Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country, Australia. He has worked as a lighting designer for theatre, opera, and dance, in the UK, Australia and internationally. Anthony is currently based in London.
Anthony’s lighting design portfolio includes productions for The Royal Court (London), The Barbican, Battersea Arts Centre, Trinity Laban, RADA and Canberra Theatre Centre. He is particularly passionate about new writing, but loves storytelling in all its forms.
Anthony is the Deputy Head of Lighting at RADA, where he teaches lighting design, production electrics, and lighting programming on the Academy’s practice-led courses. As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Anthony is committed to nurturing the next generation of talented artists and theatre practitioners.
Anthony is also a Postgraduate Researcher at the University of York. His PhD is titled Towards a Light Dramaturgy: Techniques and Practice of Dramaturgy as Lighting Design.

Research Interests
Anthony’s research interests include lighting design for live performance; dramaturgy; the role of the lighting designer as dramaturg; scenography. Anthony’s PhD research at the University of York is focused on developing tools for lighting designers to be proactive dramaturgs within the production process.
