Annette Rubery

Dr

I am a writer, editor and researcher, currently writing a biography of 18th-century actress Peg Woffington. I have presented papers on 18th-century theatre at conferences held by (among others) The European Society for the Study of English (NUI Galway) and The British Society for Eighteenth Century Studies (St Hugh’s College, Oxford). Apart from my membership of the STR, I am also a member of the Women’s Studies Group 1558-1837 and the Samuel Johnson Society of Lichfield. I am an active volunteer for the latter, holding a seat on the Johnson Council and on the Editorial Board of the Society’s annual journal, Transactions. I have also published a book of popular history (Lichfield Then & Now) and a paper/book chapter for Routledge (2019) entitled “Visual Art as Celebrity Memoir: The Paradox of Peg Woffington’s Sick-bed Portrait”.
