Beatrice Ashton-Lelliott is a doctoral researcher and seminar tutor at the University of Portsmouth studying the autobiographies of nineteenth-century magicians and the parallel representations of fictional magicians and conjuring in Victorian literature.
She recently completed a placement contextualizing nineteenth-century playbills and periodical reviews at the British Library, and her other research interests include occulture, Romanticism and fantasy fiction.
In 2018 she received a Travel Award from the STR to carry out research at the National Fairground and Circus Archive in Sheffield.
