Lydia in Court (ONLINE BOOKINGS)
While working on a biography of the once-celebrated burlesque performer Lydia Thompson (1838-1908), Sue Solomon has uncovered a wealth of new material. For this lecture she has dramatised some of the cases in which Lydia appeared in both Britain and America. Using contemporary press reports and court papers you will be taken back to an era where celebrity culture and the law met in a surprisingly modern way. She will be supported by a distinguished cast and there will also be live music.
BOOKINGS:
STR lectures are free and open to the public. You don’t have to be a member, but it is essential to book to let us know if you wish to join online. This lecture will be livestreamed by the AWG via YouTube.
Links to the livestream will be emailed to those who have booked.
The Speaker: Sue Solomon is a lawyer as well as a theatre enthusiast and has always combined both activities. For the STR she has lectured on such subjects as ballooning in the theatre and has directed readings of the first stage adaptations of Nicholas Nickleby and Frankenstein.
