Lydia in Court (IN-PERSON BOOKINGS)

While working on a biography of the once-celebrated burlesque performer Lydia Thompson (1838-1908), Sue Solomon has uncovered a wealth of new material. For this lecture she has dramatised some of the cases in which Lydia appeared in both Britain and America. Using contemporary press reports and court papers you will be taken back to an era where celebrity culture and the law met in a surprisingly modern way. She will be supported by a distinguished cast and there will also be live music.

BOOKINGS:

STR lectures are free and open to the public. You don’t have to be a member, but it is essential to book to let us know if you wish to attend in person. Lectures are presented in London and timings are GMT.  Please note that places are limited at the Art Workers’ Guild, and you are advised to book as soon as possible to reserve a seat.
