Hannah Pritchard Celebration

“Nature and Wit so strong in thee combine”

This is an evening in celebration of the life and work of the actress Hannah Pritchard, marking the 250th anniversary of her death. She was perhaps the greatest and most versatile actress of her generation, yet she also found time to bring up three daughters and to run a successful dressmaking business, dressing Queen Charlotte for her marriage to George III. Even Dr Johnson, who infamously described her as a “vulgar idiot”, acknowledged her greatness on the stage. The event will follow the re-dedication of Hannah Pritchard’s memorial in the triforium of Westminster Abbey.
