Annual Address: Lolita Chakrabarti in conversation with Simon Sladen

Lolita Chakrabarti trained at RADA and is an award winning playwright and actress.  Her  play Red Velvet, starring Adrian Lester, opened at the Tricycle Theatre in London in 2012. It returned to a sell out run in 2014 before transferring to New York and then went on to be a part of Sir Kenneth Branagh’s Season at the Garrick Theatre in 2016.  The play has been nominated for nine major awards including the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Most Promising Playwright, Critics Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright and two Olivier Awards.  To do there have been over twenty productions world wide. As an actress Lolita starred in the epic ITV drama Beowulf: Return of the Shieldlands, Vera (ITV), My Mad Fat Diary 3 (E4), Jekyll and Hyde (ITV), Death in Paradise (BBC1) and J K Rowling’s A Casual Vacancy (BBC1/HBO). She recently played Gertrude in Ken Branagh’s acclaimed production of Hamlet at RADA opposite Tom Hiddleston.  Lolita is currently co-writing a series for Steve McQueen for the BBC, adapting Yann Martel’s novel Life of Pi for the stage, she is in development for original series for television and working on a film of Red Velvet. She has also written and is producing her first feature for Lesata Productions, a company she co-founded.
