Panto – the Year of Creativity

The very first Panto Day was celebrated on Thursday 1st December 2011 – 2020 sees Panto Day celebrate its tenth anniversary, so get those felt tips, crayons and colouring pencils ready for . . .

The Year of Creativity!

On Friday 18th December, theatres across the UK will come together to toast the wonderful world of pantomime. From tweeting on Twitter using #pantoday, to posting videos on YouTube and photos on Instagram, screens and stages will come alive as Pantoland opens its doors to all.

84 pantomimes are currently planned for the 2020 season with 191 venues postponing or cancelling due to Covid-19 (data correct as of Wednesday October 14th). Celebrating past, present and future creativity, Panto Day 2020 will shine a light on those who help bring the magic of Pantoland to life each season.

In the month leading up to Friday 18th December, Panto Day’s social media will spotlight a #designeroftheday with the Year of Creativity also seeing new articles added to the Panto Advice Page as industry experts share their pearls of panto wisdom.

And if that’s not enough, top costume and set designers will be releasing brand new pantomime creations to be downloaded and coloured in so that everyone can get creative at home. These will join existing Panto Day activities including crosswords, wordsearches and even a DIY paper pantomime cow!

Founder of Panto Day Simon Sladen said:

More than ever, Panto Day provides us with the opportunity to come together and celebrate Britain’s favourite artform. The Year of Creativity will explore the pantomime industry’s creative response to Covid-19, spotlight the amazing creatives that make each season happen and encourage people to get creative at home. We can’t wait for everyone to get creative on December 18th for Panto Day’s tenth birthday!
