"The combination of the Theatre Collection's existing holdings with the acquisition of the Mander and Mitchenson Collection will form an outstanding record of the history of British theatre. It will offer an unparalleled research facility, based in a University Department and open to all; from students and academic researchers to theatre professionals and the media, as well as family historians and interested members of the public", said Jo Elsworth, the Collection's Keeper.
It is also claimed that the combined collection will be the largest in the world. That's a long way from its origins of over 50 years ago when it was housed in a tiny room no bigger than a galley kitchen in the old Van Dyke printing works at the bottom of Woodland Road.
