How to Join


The Society is open to anyone of whatever age who is interested in the history and technique of the British theatre. Some members are academics, but at least half the members have always been private individuals who are theatre enthusiasts.

Benefits of Membership
Benefits of membership include: the Society's journal, Theatre Notebook (three times a year); at least one book publication a year; the lecture series each winter (October - May); corporate membership of the New Cavendish Club in London; a wide variety of other events around the country (and occasionally abroad); chance to publicise your research interests.

Subscription Rates
Individual membership: £30 a year, £33 / $66 overseas.
Corporate membership* (libraries, drama departments, etc.): £34, or £38 / $76 overseas.
Student membership (full-time students over 18): £15, or £16.50 / $33 overseas.
Life membership (available for those over 65): £400 / $800.

Non-members subscription to Theatre Notebook: £19, or £21 / $42 overseas.

The Society's year runs from 1st October to 30th September, but new members are welcome at any time, and receive the full entitlement of publications for that year.

*From October 2008, Corporate membership rates will be: £35 UK and £40 / $80 overseas.
